Basketball Recap: Glendale Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Glendale duked it out withSouth Mountain on Friday. The Glendale Cardinals fell to the South Mountain Jaguars 68-62. The Cardinals have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Loss or not, Glendale got some senior leadership from Michael Palomino and Anthony Duran. Palomino dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards, while Duran posted 14 points in addition to five assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Palomino has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Simon Sinohui, who had 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Glendale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Jamion Wesley had a dynamite game for South Mountain, almost dropping a double-double on 25 points and nine boards. Wesley is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Kaedience Koronich was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Glendale's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for South Mountain, they moved to 3-8 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Glendale didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 73-46 loss against Marcos de Niza on the 16th. As for South Mountain, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Mountain View on the 16th.
