After flying high against the Whittell Warriors on Friday, the Excel Christian Warriors came back down to earth. Excel Christian's rough 64-41 loss to Mineral County on Saturday might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Excel Christian in their matchups with Mineral County: they've now lost five in a row.
Mark Doerfler and Keegan Davis certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Doerfler scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks, while Davis scored eight points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Doerfler pulled down eight or more rebounds.
DeVayne Isom was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven assists and six steals for Mineral County. Isom continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Triston Jones, who scored five points along with four steals.
Excel Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Mineral County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Excel Christian will play host again and welcome enCompass Academy, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. EnCompass Academy is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. As for Mineral County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pyramid Lake at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Pyramid Lake is ranked 72nd, while Mineral County is ranked 68th).
