Smithfield is 9-1 against Bruton since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Smithfield Packers' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Bruton Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Smithfield suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They were dealt a 79-25 loss at the hands of Grafton. While losing is never fun, Smithfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while Grafton is ranked 57th).
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Bruton, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-33 loss to Warhill on Thursday.
Smithfield's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Bruton, they bumped their record down to 5-7 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Smithfield beat Bruton 30-22 in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. Does Smithfield have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bruton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
