La Crescent is 0-3 against Caledonia since May of 2024 but things could change on Tuesday. The Lancers will venture away from home to take on the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. La Crescent will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
La Crescent barely beat Rushford-Peterson the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lancers blew past the Trojans 14-6 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Maleah Moldenhauer was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Addie Murilla and Lexi Kiesau did most of the damage at the plate: Murilla went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Kiesau went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave Murilla a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nadia Woodard, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Caledonia faced Randolph in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Warriors fell 6-2 to the Rockets.
Caledonia saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elsa Blum, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
La Crescent pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Caledonia, their defeat ended a 17-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. La Crescent has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Caledonia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
La Crescent came up short against Caledonia when the teams last played back in April, falling 5-0. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
