Vernon-Verona-Sherrill had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Notre Dame by a score of 57-46 on Friday. The win was just what Vernon-Verona-Sherrill needed coming off of a 71-29 loss in their prior match.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Atticus Roque, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. Roque is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliijah Donegan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, New Hartford beat the Warriors 38-33 on Friday. Given New Hartford's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Warriors are ranked 649th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill's victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-12. As for New Hartford, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill was dealt a bruising 91-47 loss at the hands of the Spartans in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Vernon-Verona-Sherrill was down 47-27.
