Mount Dora and Umatilla are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Mount Dora is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Foundation Academy last Friday as Mount Dora made off with a 14-2 victory. The Hurricanes not only won last Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2024.
ADDISON GANUS made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. GANUS was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
In other batting news, PEYTON KOLVA was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those RBI were her first of the season. KHAI-LYNN HOWLETT was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Mount Dora kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Umatilla suffered their closest defeat since April 5, 2024 last Thursday. They fell just short of Taylor by a score of 13-11. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Mount Dora, Umatilla also got a great game from a two-way player: Jaelyn Larsen. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Larsen has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Kiersten Hunsicker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brook Thomas, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Umatilla's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Mount Dora, their win bumped their record up to an identical 2-6.
Mount Dora came out on top in a nail-biter against Umatilla in their previous matchup back in February, sneaking past 3-2. Does Mount Dora have another victory up their sleeve, or will Umatilla turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
