Valley View is 0-6 against Vela since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Valley View Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vela Sabercats at 6:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Valley View: they have been struggling with eight straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Vela has snatched up 21 consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
Valley View suffered their biggest defeat yet this season last Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 69-19 loss at the hands of Pioneer. While losing is never fun, Valley View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1443rd, while Pioneer is ranked 457th).
Meanwhile, Vela can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sharyland 69-21 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Vela has posted since December 15, 2023.
Vela can attribute much of their success to Gg Betancourt, who scored 21 points along with three steals, and Janai Coleman, who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrielle Tijerina, who scored two points along with four steals.
Valley View's defeat dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Vela, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 19 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season.
Valley View took a serious blow against Vela in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 93-14. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Coleman, who scored 31 points along with five steals and two blocks.
