The Clarkrange Buffaloes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. They suffered a tough 82-61 defeat at the hands of Stone Memorial. While losing is never fun, Clarkrange can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while Stone Memorial is ranked 63rd).
Despite the defeat, Clarkrange saw an underclassman step up: Jack Cordell scored 28 points along with two steals. Kristopher Beaty was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Cade Capps was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 38 points and nine rebounds for Stone Memorial. Capps hasn't dropped below 15 points for 24 straight games. Another player making a difference was Braiden Elliott, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Clarkrange has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season. As for Stone Memorial, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-8.
Clarkrange will head out on the road to face off against Gordonsville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clarkrange is coming into the contest with four straight losses on the road, meaning Gordonsville will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Stone Memorial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against DeKalb County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Stone Memorial has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 241 points over their last three matchups.
