The Saucon Valley Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Notre Dame-Green Pond Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Saucon Valley fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. Everything went their way against Palisades on Friday as Saucon Valley made off with a 27-7 victory.
Saucon Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jack Robertson out in front who picked up 179 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Robertson's longest reception was for an incredible 72 yards. Constantine Donahue and his 97 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Saucon Valley's win.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame-Green Pond entered their tilt with Wilson Area with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Notre Dame-Green Pond didn't even let Wilson Area onto the board and left with a 49-0 win on Saturday. That's two games straight that Notre Dame-Green Pond has won by exactly 49 points.
Danny Darno was his usual excellent self, rushing for 46 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 167 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Josh Ludlow was another key contributor, gaining 98 total yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Notre Dame-Green Pond's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Brett Bruckman and John paul Pierce who racked up four sacks between them.
Their wins bumped Saucon Valley to 5-5 and Notre Dame-Green Pond to 7-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Saucon Valley has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 164.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame-Green Pond struggles in that department as they've been even better at 168.8 per game. It's looking like Thursday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Saucon Valley was dealt a bruising 48-20 defeat at the hands of Notre Dame-Green Pond in their previous meeting back in August. Can Saucon Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
