Even though the Morro Bay Pirates have not done well against the Pioneer Valley Panthers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Morro Bay secured a 50-46 W over the Panthers. This was payback for Morro Bay, who suffered a 53-49 loss the last time these two teams met.
Morro Bay's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sergio Mendoza, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Justin Campbell was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
When it comes to explaining why Pioneer Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Inderveer Toor. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Toor has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Teniente, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
The victory got Morro Bay back to even at 12-12. As for Pioneer Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morro Bay will face off against the Conquistadores at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cabrillo will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Pioneer Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against the Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
