The Peoria Christian Chargers will venture away from home to square off against the Brimfield Indians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Peoria Christian has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with five straight losses, while Brimfield will come in with 13 straight wins.
On Thursday, Peoria Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Deer Creek-Mackinaw and fell 10-9.
Meanwhile, Brimfield never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Midwest Central. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 contests by six runs or more this season.
Sean Crowe and Kaeden Schatsiek were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Crowe tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Schatsiek struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Crowe has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Crowe went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Schatsiek went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cleveland Bizosky and Dane Fagerburg did most of the damage at the plate: Bizosky went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Fagerburg went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Brady Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Brimfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Brimfield's victory was their 12th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-4-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Peoria Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.
Peoria Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Brimfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
