The Dekaney Wildcats will square off against the Benjamin Davis Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dekaney is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Dekaney was able to grind out a solid victory over Westfield, taking the game 6-3. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.
The team relied heavily on Micah Green, who went 3-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Martinez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Dekaney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Davis fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Spring on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 11-10. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Darwin Virtudazo put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-6.
In other batting news, Adan Ramirez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-6. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Devin Simth, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Benjamin Davis' defeat dropped their record down to 5-7-1. As for Dekaney, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dekaney has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Benjamin Davis struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
