The Corona del Sol Aztecs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 69-34 loss at the hands of Highland. Corona del Sol has not had much luck with Highland recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Corona del Sol saw an underclassman step up: Penelope Williams scored eight points along with two steals.
Corona del Sol struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Highland racked up 12 assists.
Highland was led to victory by Madilyn Gewirtz and Emilee Searle. Gewirtz scored seven points along with nine steals and eight rebounds, while Searle scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Addison Riggs was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Corona del Sol has not been sharp recently as the team has lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season. As for Highland, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-10.
Corona del Sol's road trip will continue as they head out to face Gilbert at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st. One thing working in Gilbert's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matchups. As for Highland, they will head out on the road to take on Desert Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Desert Vista will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Highland surely won't give up without a fight.
