After both having extra time off, the Village Christian Academy Knights and the Freedom Christian Academy Patriots will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Two weeks ago, Village Christian Academy made easy work of Fayetteville Academy and carried off a 3-0 victory. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Village Christian Academy never let Fayetteville Academy on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-16, 25-20.
Hoke County came into Thursday's contest looking for another win against Freedom Christian Academy, but Jake Lawson wouldn't allow it. The Patriots put the hurt on the Bucks with a sharp 3-0 victory two weeks ago for which the team can thank Lawson, who had 20 assists and 12 digs. He has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more assists the last three times he's played.
Freedom Christian Academy walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the first set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-16, 25-19.
Village Christian Academy better focus on containing Andrew McBroom and Christian Thompson as the pair were huge in Freedom Christian Academy's win. McBroom had 12 digs, while Thompson had 14 digs, seven kills, four aces, and one block. Those 14 digs gave Thompson a new career-high. Adrian Hopson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assists of the season.
Freedom Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Village Christian Academy, their win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2.
Everything went Village Christian Academy's way against Freedom Christian Academy when the teams last played back in March, as Village Christian Academy made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
