Woodlands Academy extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 5-6. They came up short against the Regina Dominican Panthers, falling 17-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 last Wednesday.
Woodlands Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evie Twohig, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
As for Regina Dominican, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by nine runs or more this season.
On Regina Dominican's side, Payton Aylward was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Aylward a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Regina Dominican let Clare Lavar and Olivia Fraterrigo run wild. Lavar went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Fraterrigo went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Lavar has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Ashlynn Keps was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Coming up, Woodlands Academy will host Willows Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.8 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Regina Dominican, they will head out to take on Resurrection at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Bandits have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.33 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
