The Weld Central Rebels waltzed into their matchup Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They breezed by Dolores Huerta Prep on the road to the tune of 52-4. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Weld Central has managed all season.
Weld Central can attribute much of their success to Jazlyn Ontiveros, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The matchup was Ontiveros' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Holly Cook, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Dolores Huerta Prep struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Weld Central's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Dolores Huerta Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weld Central will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Highland at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Dolores Huerta Prep will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Limon at 4:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024. Limon presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Dolores Huerta Prep in Colorado (Limon is ranked 83rd, while Dolores Huerta Prep is ranked 294th).
