The Banner County Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 45-32 to Guernsey-Sunrise. While losing is never fun, Banner County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 279th in Nebraska, while Guernsey-Sunrise is ranked 65th in Wyoming).
Despite the loss, Banner County had strong showings from Leeigh McGowan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 20 rebounds, and Abigayle Jones, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. That was a full 43.8% of Banner County's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Banner County dropped their record down to 3-18 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Guernsey-Sunrise, their victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-10.
Banner County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Guernsey-Sunrise, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lingle-Fort Laramie at 1:30 p.m. on February 10th. Lingle-Fort Laramie will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Guernsey-Sunrise surely won't give up without a fight.
