PHOENIX, Ariz. -
Thunderbird (Phoenix, Ariz.) extended its winning streak to five games with a 56-7 victory over Alhambra (Phoenix, Ariz.) on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Kaleb Hofer touchdown run in the first quarter, the Chiefs were up 42-7 at the half.
Thunderbird grew its lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. THS's lone score in the quarter came on a
BJ Pelt touchdown run.
Thunderbird's most effective player was
Jake Glatting. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Alhambra's only touchdown came on a run in the second quarter.
Thunderbird entered the contest giving up 23.3 points per game this year. THS held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Lions well below the 24.8 points it had been averaging per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Alhambra, which notched a 47-26 victory over Moon Valley in its previous outing. The loss snapped Alhambra's three-game winning streak.
In a III Section VI game next week Thunderbird (6-3) takes on Central, and Alhambra (6-3) will go up against Tempe also in a III Section VI game.
