Downingtown West is on a six-game streak of home wins, while East is on a ten-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Whippets will host the Vikings at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Downingtown West 2.1, East 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Downingtown West nor Bishop Shanahan made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Whippets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Whippets have posted since April 6th.
Kiri Weidner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Casey McWilliams, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Kate Czarkowski was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, while East put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Sun Valley. The Vikings were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Vanguards. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Riley Douglass was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Mia Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2025.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Downingtown West hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like East struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
