Mishawaka Marian is 9-1 against South Bend Washington since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mishawaka Marian Knights will head out on the road to face off against the South Bend Washington Panthers at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mishawaka Marian has three straight wins, South Bend Washington has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Mishawaka Marian posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 31-28 victory over Penn. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Mishawaka Marian has scored all season.
Mishawaka Marian can attribute much of their success to Zion Rhoades, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds, and Jackson Horvath, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, South Bend Washington pushed their score all the way to 57 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 66-57 to Valparaiso. While losing is never fun, South Bend Washington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Valparaiso is ranked 32nd).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Steven Reynolds 3, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Donovan Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Mishawaka Marian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. As for South Bend Washington, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.
Mishawaka Marian couldn't quite finish off South Bend Washington in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 and fell 43-41. Can Mishawaka Marian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
