The Purvis Tornadoes will head out to square off against the Presbyterian Christian Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Purvis' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five games.
Purvis' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Wayne County 12-0. The Tornadoes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Kade Lawler looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Drew Swan was a standout: he fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-2. What's more, he posted two runs, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. JoJo Parker was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Purvis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Presbyterian Christian put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Columbia Academy.
Brennon Thoms was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he's launched this season. Another player making a difference was Jet Henderson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Purvis' record is now 6-1. As for Presbyterian Christian, their record is now 4-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Purvis has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Presbyterian Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Purvis came up short against Presbyterian Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 5-1. Can Purvis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
