The Y Yuma had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They really took it to Brush for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-38 win on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Y has managed all season.
Jonathan Thomson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 16 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Cristian Duarte, who scored 16 points.
Despite the loss, Brush had strong showings from Edgar Ortiz, who scored 13 points, and Thatcher Queen, who scored six points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Queen has scored all season.
Y's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Brush, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Y will be home for the holidays to greet Rangely at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rangely will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Y is ranked 49th). Brush will be home for the holidays to greet Fort Morgan at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Fort Morgan is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
