2A District 2 recap October 8, 2013
Santa Rosa extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 2 this week by beating Dexter, 19-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Clayton took down Escalante 51-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Zane Vandiver ran for 85 yards in the win.
Estancia's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Clay Cabber threw for 42 and 1 touchdown and Cesar Quintana had 42 yards receiving. On the ground Joshua Jaquez contributed 210 yards.
Jaquez was a passing and rushing force as the Bears defeated Socorro.
Jaquez was a force in the backfield as Estancia topped the Warriors.
Cabber put up the best numbers through the air as Stewart Burnett's team bested Socorro.
Thanks to the talents of Cabber and Jaquez, the Bears have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Cabber is tops in the league in passing with 326 yards, while Jaquez has rushed for 676 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is the Yellowjackets' Josh Durbin, with 167 yards on 4 catches.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Clayton's Durbin goes up against Estancia's Cabber.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Bears and Collin Justiss' team face off next week.
As it stands, the Yellowjackets are in second, while Estancia is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Clayton and the Bears face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Yellowjackets comes in having scored 296 this season, while Estancia has scored 204. Clayton scored 51 points last week as it bested the Lobos.
The Bears led the league in scoring this week after putting up 54 points on Cody Lee's team. Jaquez ran for 210 yards during the win.
