Even though the Yazoo City Indians have not done well against the Greenville Hornets recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Yazoo City escaped with a win against Greenville by the margin of a single free throw, 39-38. For Yazoo City, this counts as revenge for the 57-38 loss Greenville walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2016.
Despite the loss, Greenville still got an impressive performance from Charlisa Barney, who scored 21 points. Barney scored a full 55.3% of Greenville's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tykeria McCullum, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Yazoo City's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Greenville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-5.
Yazoo City will head out on the road to face off against Cleveland Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cleveland Central will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Greenville will take on Holmes County Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: DeKyra Mitchell and Barney.
