2A-1 Region I District 1 recap November 5, 2013
Childress scaled the state rankings by moving to 511 from 544 this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region I District 1. The Bobcats climbed the ranks as a result of besting Muleshoe 19-14.
Bushland added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Dimmitt, 48-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Falcons.
Bushland's Taylor Cornelius and Brian Gillette led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-6 quarterback Cornelius has thrown for 1,981 yards this season, while Gillette has 44 catches for 479 yards. Childress' Da'Shoud Hughes leads the league in rushing yards with 398.
The top two teams in 2A-1 Region I District 1 will face off this week when first place Childress takes on second place Bushland. Cody Chisum's team bested the Mules last week, while Steven Flowers' team beat the Bobcats.
The Falcons' offense has racked up 174 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Bobcats have allowed only 171 on the year.
Entering into this week's contest against Childress, Cornelius is short just 19 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
Dimmitt fell to the Falcons 48-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
