After a string of three wins, the Monacan Chiefs's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were the victim of a tough 67-43 defeat at the hands of James River Midlothian. Monacan has not had much luck with James River Midlothian recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Monacan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Amirah Washington. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds. Washington scored a full 46.5% of Monacan's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Zofia Enriquez was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Monacan's defeat dropped their record down to 3-1. As for James River Midlothian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Monacan will head out on the road to face off against Powhatan at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Powhatan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Monacan is ranked fifth). As for James River Midlothian, they will be playing at home against Richmond City School of the Arts at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Richmond City School of the Arts comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
