Germantown hasn't had much luck against Greenville recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Clippers are taking a road trip to challenge the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Germantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Germantown will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Rensselaer, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Clippers put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 17-3 victory on Wednesday. The game was the first time the Clippers have beaten the Rams on their field since May 6, 2019.

Emma Schmidt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddy Dodge, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Shumway, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Germantown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Greenville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They lost 29-1 to Cairo-Durham. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Spartans have suffered against the Mustangs since May 8, 2017.
Greenville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madisyn Werner, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
Germantown's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8. As for Greenville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Greenville's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Germantown has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Greenville, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Germantown keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
Germantown suffered a grim 22-3 defeat to Greenville when the teams last played back in April. Can the Clippers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
