The Minor Tigers won the last time they faced the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils, and things went their way on Thursday too. Minor came out on top against Mortimer Jordan by a score of 51-43. The victory was all the more spectacular given Minor's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Mortimer Jordan is ranked 14th).
Leading Minor to victory were Timothy Banks and Carmelo Burroughs. Banks scored 13 points along with three blocks, while Burroughs scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The match was Burroughs' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Mcclain, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Minor pushed their record up to 10-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Mortimer Jordan, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Minor will be home for the holidays to greet Jasper at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Jasper knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Minor likes a good challenge. Mortimer Jordan will be home for the holidays to greet Calera at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Calera is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
