The Johnson Atomsmashers were the 66-53 winner over the Groves Rebels when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Johnson was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 65-64 to Groves. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Monday (63), Johnson still had to take the loss.
Johnson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joshua Quarterman, who scored 31 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quarterman has scored all season. Cormari Jones was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight steals.
Johnson's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Groves, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Johnson on the road again on Saturday and play against Savannah Country Day at 7:30 p.m. on January 20th. As for Groves, they will take on Long County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
