It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Fike Demons ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past J.H. Rose 41-38. Given Fike's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while J.H. Rose is ranked 473rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jewel Brewington, who scored 26 points. The game was Brewington's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emory Skinner, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
J.H. Rose's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tamyah Rhodes, who scored ten points along with three steals. Cameron Daise was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Even though they lost, J.H. Rose were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fike only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Fike now has a winning record of 3-2. As for J.H. Rose, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Fike will head out on the road to face off against Beddingfield at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Beddingfield is on a three-game streak of home wins, Fike a four-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. J.H. Rose and Bertie will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Bertie focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Wednesday.
