Hughes entered their tilt with Wagner on Monday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. It was close, but they capped 2024 with a 74-71 win over the Wagner Falcons. While the BIG RED didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Hughes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elijah Englemen led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. LeShawn Hill was another key player, going 6 for 11 on his way to 20 points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Hughes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Hughes' record is now 7-3. As for Wagner, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Hughes wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-42 victory against Gamble Montessori on the 3rd. As for Wagner, they will take on Boys & Girls at 5:00 p.m. on January 7th.
