The Canyon Cougars''s game back in September was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They took down Hays 36-18. Given Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 260th, while Hays is ranked 645th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canyon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jackson Regan, who picked up 81 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Deitrick, who threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns.
Canyon's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Tate Box and his two sacks.
Canyon now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Hays, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon will challenge Lehman on Friday. Lehman is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Hays, they will head out on the road to face off against Seguin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
