Calais has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Orono Riots at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Calais will be strutting in after a win while Orono will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Wednesday, Calais narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Sumner 41-39.
Calais' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Brenna Critchley, who scored 14 points, and Kate McPhee, who scored 15 points. The contest was McPhee's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
Meanwhile, Orono had to suffer through a rough 74-21 loss at the hands of Penobscot Valley. While losing is never fun, Orono can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Penobscot Valley is ranked 23rd).
Calais' victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Orono, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4.
