C2 District 6 recap October 22, 2013
Zach Bellar and Nate Gray provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Crofton. The connection was good for 85 yards, the longest such play in C2 District 6 this season.
Lutheran-Northeast added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Ponca, 21-6. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Battle Creek's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Bellar threw for 155 and 1 touchdown and Gray had 125 yards receiving. On the ground Gray chipped in 178 yards. Eli McKeown helped Battle Creek's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.
Connor Osborne was a key player and the best on defense this week as West Holt lost to Cedar Catholic. The 6-foot-3 senior recorded 1 fumble.
Gray was the best wideout in the league this week as the Braves topped the Warriors. Gray racked up 3 receptions for 125 yards. McKeown helped Battle Creek's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.
Battle Creek's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Braves feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bellar has thrown for 637 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while McKeown has 13 catches for 231 yards.
The marquee game in C2 District 6 this week will be the clash between Battle Creek and Lutheran-Northeast. Andrew Carlson's team comes into the matchup ranked 17th in the state, while Darin Suckstorf's team ranks 18th.
The Trojans were the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fifth to third in the league. Cedar Catholic beat the Huskies 14-3 earlier in the week.
