The Springport Spartans will be playing at home against the Athens Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Springport sitting on five straight wins and Athens on three.
Springport stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They breezed by Maple Valley on the road to the tune of 73-3. Springport's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Springport had a senior duo take command as Maddux Locke dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 11 assists, and 12 steals and Brenna Crittenden scored 16 points along with seven steals. Locke is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hope Overweg, who scored seven points along with 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Athens beat Burr Oak 35-31 on Thursday.
Springport's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Athens, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Springport strolled past Athens when the teams last played back in February of 2017 by a score of 40-21. Does Springport have another victory up their sleeve, or will Athens turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
