Lanham Christian has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against Calverton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Lanham Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Calverton likes a good challenge.
Lanham Christian put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Avalon as Lanham Christian made off with a 69-43 win. Given Lanham Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Avalon is ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lanham Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamar Payen, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Dakari Wilson, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Calverton played against Takoma Academy and lost via forfeit.
Lanham Christian pushed their record up to 18-3 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26.9 points. As for Calverton, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Everything came up roses for Lanham Christian against Calverton in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 103-33 win. With Lanham Christian ahead 61-16 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
