Calvary Chapel has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The California Lutheran C-Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Calvary Chapel can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent game on Saturday. Everything went their way against Blair as Calvary Chapel made off with a 34-12 victory.
Calvary Chapel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keith Jaeckels led the charge by rushing for 116 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Another player making a difference was Josh Lennear, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Calvary Chapel's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Blair's QB won't forget Nick Trasvina anytime soon given Trasvina sacked him five times.
Meanwhile, California Lutheran had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-14 win over Hillcrest Christian on the road. The result was nothing new for California Lutheran, who have now won three matches by 28 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead California Lutheran to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ren Ukai, who rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns. Colton McGee also helped out as he racked up 114 rushing yards.
Their wins bumped Calvary Chapel to 5-4 and California Lutheran to 6-3.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Calvary Chapel has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 226 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like California Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been even better at 246.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Calvary Chapel came up short against California Lutheran in their previous matchup back in September, falling 28-22. Can Calvary Chapel avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
