The Douglas Bulldogs waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They enjoyed a cozy 60-46 victory over Sahuarita. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Douglas also won the last time the pair played on January 4th.
Francia Rubio continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Keyra Espinosa, who scored 19 points.
Sahuarita lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Karol Ortiz, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Ortiz hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Camila Villalobos, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sahuarita smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Douglas only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Douglas pushed their record up to 21-4 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Sahuarita, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
Douglas will be playing at home against Walden Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Walden Grove has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15. As for Sahuarita, they will head out on the road to challenge Mica Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Mica Mountain is ranked 64th, while Sahuarita is ranked 74th).
