Basketball Recap: Wayne County Piles Up the Points Against East Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wayne County). They took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 71-43 victory over the East Central Hornets. Given the War Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Hornets are ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, East Central still got an impressive performance from Aj Hopkins, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 22 points. Hopkins' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Bonfiglio, who posted three points and six boards.

The win got Wayne County back to even at 6-6. As for East Central, their loss was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Vancleave the next time they take the court. East Central will host Vancleave at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Wayne County will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
