Basketball Game Preview: Pflugerville Connally Cougars vs. Elgin Wildcats

Pflugerville Connally is 9-1 against Elgin since December of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Pflugerville Connally Cougars challenge the Elgin Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Pflugerville Connally knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Elgin likes a good challenge.

Pflugerville Connally picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They breezed by Brenham to the tune of 66-35.

Pflugerville Connally's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Phagans led the charge by going 8 of 17 en route to 20 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those five steals gave Phagans a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Doe, who went 7 of 12 en route to 18 points.

Pflugerville Connally smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Elgin played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Georgetown 55-28. The Wildcats have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Pflugerville Connally is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Elgin, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.

Pflugerville Connally strolled past Elgin in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a score of 61-44. Does Pflugerville Connally have another victory up their sleeve, or will Elgin turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
