Cooper Williams spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Bethel Christian Academy is undefeated when Williams allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.
At the plate, Jamey Williams and Brayden Cash did most of the damage at the plate: Jamey went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Cash went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Williams is becoming a predictor of Bethel Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Jonathan White also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
They weren't the only one making solid contact: Bethel Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Bern Christian Academy). They were the clear victors by a 31-4 margin over Epiphany on Monday. New Bern Christian Academy hasn't had any issues with Epiphany recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Tyler Willis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, New Bern Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Seth Nobles, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. With that strong performance, Nobles is now averaging an impressive 3 runs per game. Preston Ryan was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI.
Bethel Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for New Bern Christian Academy, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.
Everything went Bethel Christian Academy's way against New Bern Christian Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Bethel Christian Academy made off with a 23-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
