The Santa Ynez Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 52-43 to Nipomo. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Santa Ynez came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 480th, while Nipomo is ranked 986th).
Santa Ynez's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hale Durbiano, who scored 19 points along with 9 rebounds. Durbiano scored a full 44.2% of Santa Ynez's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Luke Gianis, who scored 11 points.
Santa Ynez's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Nipomo, their victory bumped their record up to 1-3.
Santa Ynez's road trip will continue as they head out to face Buchanan at 2:30 p.m. on December 2nd. Buchanan is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Nipomo, they will take on Garces Memorial at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
