The Derby Panthers extended their postseason success on Friday against the Washburn Rural Blues. They pulled ahead with a 29-28 photo finish over the Blues. Derby is really starting to get used to good results now that the team's won 11 straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Derby to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braxton Clark, who threw for 322 yards and four touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Ruedy, who picked up 166 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Derby's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Mason Hopper was especially locked on to Washburn Rural's QB and sacked him twice.
Derby's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Washburn Rural, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 11-1.
Derby will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Gardner-Edgerton at 1:00 p.m. on November 25th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Gardner-Edgerton is ranked first, while Derby is ranked third). Washburn Rural does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
