The George Wythe Maroons will head out on the road to challenge the Giles Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
Fort Chiswell hit George Wythe with a four-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Maroons came up short against the Pioneers, falling 6-0. Considering the last time the Maroons couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Emma Faulkner was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Giles made sure to put some runs up on the board against Narrows on Friday. The Spartans blew past the Green Waves 18-1. Considering the Spartans have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Addie Lowry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Giles let Addisyn Vanderpool and Peyton Evans run wild. Vanderpool went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Evans went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Evans a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sarah Ratcliffe, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Giles always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Giles' record is now 9-5. As for George Wythe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.
George Wythe couldn't quite finish off Giles in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Maroons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
