Baseball Game Preview: Walkertown Wolfpack vs. Ben L. Smith Golden Eagles

The Walkertown Wolfpack will head out on the road to face off against the Ben L. Smith Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last five games Walkertown has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Last Thursday, Walkertown narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Bethany Community 6-4. That's two games straight that the Wolfpack have won by exactly two runs.

David Olmedo was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cam Smith was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gio Maneen, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Ben L. Smith's offense. They lost 22-0 to Ragsdale on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Walkertown's record now sits at 9-4. As for Ben L. Smith, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

Ben L. Smith's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Walkertown has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. It's a different story for Ben L. Smith, though, as they've only averaged .342. Will they be able to contain Walkertown's hitters?

Walkertown got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Ben L. Smith by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolfpack since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
