After flying high against the Burke Bulldogs last Friday, the Omaha South Packers came back down to earth. Omaha South was just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 62-61 to the Discoverers. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Omaha South still got an impressive performance from Lou Hodoly, who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That was a full 42.6% of Omaha South's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Keegan Kimble was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists and two steals.
Columbus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Preston Hastreiter, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Hastreiter hasn't dropped below 11 rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Esch, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds.
Omaha South dropped their record down to 3-11 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Columbus, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-12.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Omaha North the next time they take the court. Columbus will host Omaha North at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, while Omaha South will host them at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
