The California Grizzlies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 80-54 defeat at the hands of Monte Vista. While losing is never fun, California can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Monte Vista is ranked 49th).
BRAYDEN GIJBELS and Jared Calderon certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. GIJBELS scored 13 points, while Calderon scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Calderon has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Macio Budge, who scored eight points.
California's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Monte Vista, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. California will challenge Granada at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Granada's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games. Monte Vista on the road again on Friday and play against Foothill at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th.
