Trenton is on a 14-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Lafayette is on a 14-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Tigers will welcome the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, Trenton got the win against Fort White by a conclusive 9-1. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Jordan Marlo was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ty Moses, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Trenton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort White only posted a batting average of .160.
Meanwhile, Lafayette made easy work of Union County on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Hornets have posted against the Fightin' Tigers since May 13, 2023.
Ethan Tuten made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hyatt Richardson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Trevor Byrd was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Trenton's win bumped their record up to 18-3. As for Lafayette, their victory bumped their record up to 17-2.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Trenton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .467. However, it's not like Lafayette struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Trenton's way against Lafayette in their previous meeting back in March, as Trenton made off with a 6-0 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
