Baseball Recap: Straughn Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Straughn, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They put the hurt on the Brantley Bulldogs with a sharp 20-10 victory on Monday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Matt Ashberry was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Straughn is undefeated when Ashberry posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Justin Rider also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Ashberry wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Straughn lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Straughn pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Brantley, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Straughn will welcome Andalusia at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Andalusia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Brantley, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Georgiana at 4:30 p.m. This will be Brantley's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
