Houston Academy and Geneva are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2015, but likely not for long. The Houston Academy Raiders will face off against the Geneva Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Houston Academy's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Ashford with a sharp 12-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Raiders, who have now won four games in a row.
Cooper Powell tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in hits (zero).
On the hitting side, Houston Academy let Gabe Glover and Harrison Milanowski run wild. Glover went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one triple, while Milanowski scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, Milanowski posted three RBI, the most he's had over his last ten contests. Cooper West also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Houston Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Geneva waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Warhawks 13-0. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly 13 runs.
Haze Ammons made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Ammons was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Judson Wise was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2. Ryder Precise was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-4.
Houston Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Geneva, their record now sits at 8-10.
Houston Academy couldn't quite get it done against Geneva in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 11-6. Can Houston Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
